Prague Zoo has also been hit by COVID-19
25. 02. 2021
Today animal testing using fecal samples showed that the Asian lions Jamvan and Suchi and Richard, the male gorilla, are positive. So far, their symptoms are very mild, the lions seem to have a bit of a cough and a cold, whilst Richard has lost his appetite and is tired.

Working with the Veterinary Administration, we will gradually test the other animals and samples will also be sequenced to determine which coronavirus variant it involves.
COVID positive individuals will be kept under close watch by the keepers and vets, and, if need be, they will be given supportive treatment. Prague Zoo’s staff are in contact with experts from other zoos that have already gone through a comparable experience.
Like the cases at the Bronx Zoo or San Diego Zoo, it is almost certain that, despite all the precautionary measures taken, the infection spread to the animals from COVID positive keepers.
We will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
