In the beginning of August, TripAdvisor.com, the largest travel website, published a ranking of the world’s most popular zoological gardens based on assessments by millions of its users. Prague Zoo placed seventh, confirming its worldwide popularity!

Prague Zoo appreciates this extraordinary recognition very much. “Every time I walk through our zoo, I am reminded of how beautiful it is and how great a spot they picked for it 80 years ago. I realize that we have an obligation to take the zoo forward – to modernize it in such a way that both our animals and our visitors feel great in it. Our zoo staff is doing their utmost to accomplish just that,” says Prague Zoo Director Miroslav Bobek.

In its fall campaign, Prague Zoo intends to underscore the seven crucial reasons and circumstances that have led visitors from all around the world to place Prague Zoo among the world’s zoo elite:

  1. HISTORY AND TRADITION
  2. BEAUTIFUL LOCATION
  3. BREEDING SUCCESSES
  4. EXHIBIT PHILOSOPHY
  5. SAVING ENDANGERED SPECIES
  6. COMMUNICATION AND VISITOR SERVICES
  7. POPULARITY WITH THE PUBLIC

Prague Zoo is going to take up each individual point in its communication with visitors, whether on the zoo grounds, the web or Facebook. Some events planned for this fall are directly related to these campaign themes and are meant to amplify them: for example, the HISTORY AND TRADITION theme will be taken up at the Anniversary Celebrations on September 28th, POPULARITY WITH THE PUBLIC at the Meeting of Sponsors, Partners and Friends of the Zoo on December 7th, and so on.

Also, Prague Zoo has come up with a surprise for its fans, which will feature in our campaign: children will get in for just one crown.

“We have decided to share our joy with the public at large. Seven is a lucky number, so this is what we are going to do: on the seventh day of every month, all kids up to the age of 15 will get in for just one crown. We would like for these celebrations, as it were, to be attended by as many people as possible, because they too are to be thanked for our success,” says Vít Kahle, head of marketing and PR, adding:

“All families with children who would like to celebrate with us Prague Zoo’s placing seventh among all the world’s zoological gardens are invited to visit us this year on Sunday, September 7th, on Tuesday, October 7th, on Friday, November 7th, and on Sunday, December 7th.”

The photographic themes for our outdoor campaign getting under way reflect the fact, mentioned above, that we owe our success not just to the years-long, steady work by Prague Zoo staff, but also to the support of the public and to our ever-increasing visitor numbers. Just consider: the month of August, which has just ended, brought another record for Prague Zoo: 237,000 visitors! In appreciation of this, new posters will show people in the popular places in the zoo – at a fur seal training session, in the Children’s Zoo, the African House or the Elephant Valley.
