New Male Elephant in Prague Zoo

Ankhor, 31 years old elephant bull has already sired 11 young. He originates from Barma, but from 1989 he lived in Tierpark Berlin. He arrived to Prague on August 13, 2014.

Mekong, who was not succesfull in breeding, is going to stay in Prague for some time, but later he will be transferred to another zoo, according to an EEP (European Endangered species Program) coordinator.
Origin in Burma
Ankhor arrived on Wednesday 13th August. “He is a 31-year-old father of 11 calves,” Miroslav Bobek, the Zoo Director, claimed. “He came to Prague to replace our male Mekong who wasn’t very successful with our cows.” Ankhor originates from Burma, but he lived in Tierpark Berlin from 1989. “Berlin departure was fast and smooth all the way,” said Pavel Brandl, the Curator of Mammals of the Prague Zoo.
Eight elephants
“We arrived to Prague after 5 hours at 2 a.m. Unloading took place during dawn.” 9.5 tons of heavy load (Ankhor weighing 4 tons and a transportation container) were situated into the Elephant Valley using a crane. Ankhor was allowed later on into the inner stables to settle for the next few days. “The next phase will be the introduction to the rest of the herd,” Pavel Brandl concluded. The Prague herd has eight elephants.
