Gulgurn Manja (pronounced Gulkurn Manya) means “hands of young people” in the language of the local people. Generations of children aged 8 to 12 have imprinted their right palm, dipped in red ochre, on the rock. Besides this, there are also finger paintings of emu tracks and bars. The oldest of the figures may have been created more than 20,000 years ago! It is therefore an important Aboriginal cultural heritage site.
