Kids for a Crown and the Baby Orangutan’s Baptism

Prague Zoo’s visitors can look forward to several special events during the first weekend of June. On Saturday, June 1st, all children under 15 will pay a symbolic one crown for admission to the zoo. Prague Zoo, working with the Prague Metropolitan Police, have prepared a special Children’s Day programme. It will include live music, prize competitions, sports activities and a bouncy castle. On Sunday, June 2nd, at 11 a.m., the baby orangutan will be baptized at the Indonesian Jungle Pavilion. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jan Lipavský, and British Ambassador Matt Field will join forces to name the one-month-old male.

In addition to the afore-mentioned events, there will be special themed animal feedings on both days. On Saturday, visitors can look forward to feeding parrots as part of the World Parrot Day celebrations, while on Sunday the critically endangered mountain bongos will celebrate their day in the same spirit. Programme for Saturday 1st June

9.00–18.00 Children’s Day with the Met

  • Musical programme – Swing Band of the Metropolitan Police, Education Centre terrace
  • Traffic light quoits, below the Education Centre – crossroads by the seals
  • Walking on stilts & Rotopedo, on the path next to the pelican exhibit and the seating by the anteaters
  • Face painting, Veselovsky Meadow
  • Bouncy castle, Veselovsky Meadow
  • Airbrush tattoo, Ark Theatre
  • Photo corner, next to the Ark Theatre
  • Stilt Walkers Kašpar and Klaudia, Children’s Zoo and surroundings
  • Bungee running, on the meadow behind the ticket office for the children’s tram
  • Children’s Transport Nursery School, near the Feline and Reptile Pavilion
  • Handing out gifts, opposite the Education Centre

10.00–16.00 World Parrot Day celebrations

  • 10.00 Giving enrichment to the Nestors – Rákos’ House
  • 12.00 Meeting by the slender-billed parakeets – Rákos’ House
  • 13.30 Feeding the red-tailed black cockatoos – Darwin Crater
  • 15.00 Feeding the lorikeets – Lories and Lorikeets
